TYALGUM ROAD IS OPEN

Issued 30 October 2023

The temporary access road through the landslip site near Tyalgum welcomed traffic for the first time, on a misty morning earlier today.

The sealed, single-lane roadway allows for traffic in both directions, under traffic light controls. There are no weight restrictions and school buses and trucks travelled through the roadway safely this morning.

We ask all road users to follow speed and safety signs when using the temporary access road and to keep an eye out for local wildlife along Tyalgum Road who are no longer used to traffic along the roadway.

Local contractor SEE Civil Pty Ltd SEE Group commenced this restoration project earlier this year, following the devastating flood of 2022 which caused a landslide and left Tyalgum Road shut. The temporary access road has been completed on schedule as the first crucial phase of the major restoration works.

Work on the permanent road reconstruction continues and is set to be completed by March 2025, weather and approvals permitting.

As the job continues, SEE Group will continue to monitor rainfall and ground movement to ensure ongoing safety. There may still be temporary closures if any concerns arise due to ground movement or heavy rainfall in the coming months.

We'll continue to keep you informed with project updates.

We will provide updates on our website at tweed.nsw.gov.au/flood-restoration-works.

The TDCA is committed to ensuring that our road infrastructure is repaired promptly and properly so that Tyalgum & District residents and visitors can safely travel by road.
